My name is Elaine and I live in Charlotte, North Carolina, our state's largest metropolitan city. Once called Charlottetowne, our city was renamed Charlotte in
1762 in honor of the British queen. We are located in Mecklenburg County, which was also the name of the region in Germany where Queen Charlotte was born. Charlotte is a the second largest financial center by assets in the U.S., making it a very transient city, blending cultures from all over the world.
For the first seven years of my childhood, I was a country girl. Country roots must have grown deep, because I still yearn for a rural lifestyle. As a child, my daddy affectionately called me "Laney Bug". When our first grandchild was born, it just seemed natural to be called "Laney" instead of Grandma, Nana, or MaMaw. I've been married to my wonderful husband for forty years. We have two married sons, two awesome daughters-in-law, a nine-year old granddaughter and three grandsons, six, five, and two.
Almost four years ago, I left a position held for twenty-six years at a local Christian school for a new life as a stay-at-home wife. I rediscovered my love of books, writing and crafting, and more time with family and friends. My Christian faith is very important to me, and I want others to come to know and love my Jesus.
I love the beach, seashells, old people and children, birds and butterflies, big black dogs, and I cannot resist the thrill of the hunt at garage sales and thrift stores. The adrenalin rush is addictive. I've often thought I was born in the wrong era, since I gravitate toward old things...vintage jewelry, hats, linens, furniture, and dishes.
Laney's Musings is a collection of random thoughts, aspirations, opinions, memories of the past, and desires for the future. If a post touches you in some way, I would love for you to leave a comment.
